Sewer and Stormwater Separation (USS Project)
The Province has determined that Oak Bay must begin the process of separating the Uplands residential storm water from our sewer lines; the deadline set by the Province is 2025. The cost of this work, the source of funding and the impact on individual homeowners is currently unknown to the public. Past studies of this work, done by McElhaney Engineering, should be reviewed to understand estimated costs, schedule, phasing, and its impact on property owners.

First update
The Uplands Sewer Separation project is currently paused due to an archaeological find that requires input from the provincial Archaeology Branch. The District is working closely with our archeologist and the Archaeological Branch to minimize the delay. At this time, the District is awaiting further direction from the Province for when the project can recommence. Once the District has a confirmed date, the Uplands Sewer Separation project page will be updated. I will also reach out to you directly once we have a confirmed date.
Second update
The District is obligated to take direction from the Province on all aspects of the project and the archaeological find, including direction on when the project can resume. The Provincial process does take time, but I can assure you that District staff/consultants are doing everything we can to support a timely review by the Archaeology Branch and minimize the delay to the project. We are mindful of associated cost considerations, but don’t yet have enough information to comment on the impact. As soon as we know next steps and timeline, we will share that out with you.
